The Penderwicks

If you remember, I said that when I would do collections, I would do then in different posts. This is what I will do. Of course, let's start with the first book. This is a book about 4 girls and their father. At the beginning, I thought the name Skye was a boy's name, but it can be both! It's a really great story and I have almost all the collection so this will give you a chance to know what the series is all about. :) Also, I love animals so if you love them too, this is a great book for you.

Description

This is a story about four girls and their father. Their mother died five years ago and it was very hard on them all. When the summer vacations were cancelled, they were sure they were going to have the most boring summer of all times but one july afternoon, their father said that a guy at work will be cancelling his family's vacation and said that the girls father could thane their place! So they left for Arundel at the beginning of august. Once there, they are mixed up in a fun and thrilling adventure about a mysterious boy and the rich owner of the house they rented.

It was really hard for me to understand at the beginning because there were a lot of theatre and cinema words and sayings like: "Come here wardrobe/Wardrobe, were are you?", stuff like that. But even though sometimes it was hard to understand, it's really going to help me because, I already have glasses, and sometime after Christmas, I'm going to have braces! So I'm going to re-read this book to help me out… if yo  guy's ever need help with either braces and glasses, you can count on me!

Skybreaker

As I was saying, now I am going to talk about the second book, Skybreaker. But before, I just want to say that this what I am going to do for all the other collections. So to begin, I don't know if you know what I mean, but you know sometimes the start of a book is boring, well this is the kind of book. But luckily for me, it wasn't a boring book overall! I can't tell you a lot about this book because it's the kind of book that you already predict the end. ( By the way, I'm sorry I took a long time to do another post, it's just that I had a lot of school stuff all of a sudden.)

Description

It's about Matt Cruise, again, and when he was an apprentice for being a airline captain, the airline he was on discovered the very long lost airline, the hyberion. Airborn and Skybreaker

These are two books in the same collection and are both very good books. Even though I don't have the last book of that collection, it wouldn't hurt to talk about them. First I've got to tell you that I won't do a review on both books on one posts, I'll do them separately.

So let's talk about Airborn. As you might have guessed, this is the first book of the series. It's got a lot of action and personally, I loved it! I won't tell you the punch, but my favourite part was when the main character escaped from the bad guys.

Description

Matt Cruse is a sailor on the airship, Aurora, and he has called it home for two years because his father is dead. He is the only one in the family able to get some money because his mother and sisters are very poor and Matt's family can't afford four people to feed and all. When the ship is stuck in a huge storm, they had to land on a desert island. Once there, the pirate's found them, kidnapped Matt and his friend, they escaped, and so on. I really recommend it to you.

All-of-a-kind family

This book is really cute... (for girls). If you would like an example, here is one. The 5 girls were going to the library and they were waiting for Sarah. They found her crying because she couldn't find her library book. She was crying because she will have to pay for that book and she did not have enough to buy the doll she has been saving and pay for the lost book. When they arrived at library, all of Sarah's sisters helped her pay for the book.

Description

Five high-spirited little girls have simple but happy times together growing up on New York's lower east side at the turn of the century. An understanding mother and father, rich with kindness though poor in money, add to the warmth and humour of their day-to-day adventures.

The castle of adventure

If I where a critic, I would say that the beginning is a bit too boring and that you  don't quite think it will be interesting. But I'm not a critic, so too bad. The way they talk, is old british so you can kind of guess that this is a old book.

Description

Four kids, 2 girls and 2 boys, set out in a little cottage for the holidays, they find themselves sucked into an adventure. There is an old castle on top of the hill, what's the story behind it? Who signals from the tower at night? And why are they asking all these questions? I mean whose not curious? When Philip, Dinah, Lucy-Ann and Jack set out to the castle to ask there questions, something very creepy happened. You'll have to read the book to find out the rest (Sorry).

The forgotten door

This book is kind of weird, and at some point, at the beginning, it was kind of hard to really understand. Anyhow, it's a cool book and sometimes, you would think that the boy on the cover was from our world.

Description

He only knows he fell through the forgotten door the strange planet, Earth, and he has to find someone who will help him. The weird thing is that Jon can read minds. Mary Jane

This is a heart warming story. I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure this was a true story. Anyway, if it is, it's because of these two kids that now, black children can go to white schools! :) I, personally, like this story because Mary Jane was very brave and she did not abandoned her dream. Her dream was to go to the school she is going to right now. The name of that school is Wilson Junior High.

Description

A 14 year old girl named Mary Jane, is going to a new high school. When her grandpa told her to ignore the insults because she was black, she just said that she was pretty sure she wouldn't get any insults. The reason her grandpa was so worried, was that she was the first african girl to go to the school she was going to go. The name of that school is Wilson Junior High. On the first day of school, she was escorted by 4 police men and her dad said it was to protect her from the screaming and insulting crowd that wanted to hurt her. In class, a girl named Darlene moved her desk away from Mary Jane and said her mom did not want her sitting beside a black girl. ( How insulting!!! :( ) But then one day, Mary Jane discovered there was a girl that did not hate her, that not the whole world hated her and that she was famous because she was the first black girl to go to a proper high school. She decided, also, that she was going to face all the mean people and do something about it... ( Read the book to find out the rest.)

A gift of magic

This is a great book... I know it's called the gift of magic, but in fact it's a 8th grade girl that discovers she can see in the future and other places like were her dad is, and stuff like that. You never know what will happen next. It's just a bit sad, but besides that, it's a really cool book. I know on the cover it's a girl that it's a girls book... Anybody can read it.

The kind of friends we used to be

This book is both: a story and can show what you can do when you feel rejected. It also shows you how many girl styles there are in the world and that we should accept their differences no matter how bad or weird they look.

Oh, and another thing, some parts make you kind of say: « SAY SOMETHING!!!» or « Why didn't you just say : _________________?». Stuff like that and maybe at the beginning it's a bit more complicated but this book is the 2nd and I don't have 1st book.

Description
Kate and Marylin have been friends forever except for this year when they want to be friends again but don't know how. But the only problem is that every second they are growing more and more unalike and that's the hardest thing they ever had to deal with! It would be sooooo much easier if Kate would take on Marylin's fashion advice and would let go the guitar. Why the heck is cheerleading more important than friendship to Marylin? One day, they began to hang out with each other but never became BFF's ever again.

More new books

This first book is one of my childhood books. That's right! I'm also going to post books from ages 1-5 for example. I think some of them thought might not be in store anymore because some of my books are the books my mom read when she was my age.
The two first pictures are the only books I have that have a sort of box around the books.

Remember when I was saying that some of my books my mom read when she was my age, well, these next two pictures are a collection my mom had but they are big collections so she doesn't have all the books in the collection. The first picture was a classic so parents may know the series, it's the Nancy Drew's mystery stories. If you want to know more about the Nancy Drew books, keep reading my blog because I will make a post of the collection soon enough. Now let me tell you about the next picture. This one is also a classic. The name of the collection is The Bobbsey twins. As you can see, The Bobbsey twins more books so that post might take a little longer.

Precious Bones

This is a great mystery book. You know, this is the kind of book that you have no idea, that not of even in the stretch of the imagination you know what would happen next. There's a lot of suspense and at some point, I thought I was the principal character! I can tell you one thing: usually thinking I'm the principal character, that's not my thing.

I can't even start to tell you guys how much I loved this book. It's the kind of book that makes you never want to stop reading. It's this thrilling, chilling story that sometimes brings chills down your spine and maybe say ewwww! But that just ads the excitement to it. So prepare yourselfs because your going to read a thrilling adventure!!!
